A simple re engagement sequence
Ask inactive subscribers what they still want, offer one relevant resource, then let disengaged contacts leave cleanly.

A large list full of people who never open is not an asset. It hides your real performance and can hurt delivery for everyone else. Three emails will sort it out. Email marketing services that focus only on list size rather than engagement tend to produce numbers that look fine and perform poorly.
Email one: ask
A short, plain message. We noticed you have not opened in a while, is this still useful, what would you like more of. Replies are more valuable than opens here, and the answers often reshape the next quarter of content marketing strategy work.
Email two: give
Send the single most useful thing you have for their likely problem. No pitch. This is the honest test of whether the relationship is worth keeping, and it usually revives a meaningful slice of the list.
Email three: close the loop
Tell them you will stop sending unless they click to stay. Then follow through and remove the rest. A smaller engaged list gives clearer numbers, better delivery, and more respect from the people who remain. This is a small discipline that any small business marketing Canada team can run without additional software.
What a cleaner list changes
Once the list is smaller and more engaged, every other number improves in a way that is easy to see. Open rates and click rates become honest measures again rather than averages dragged down by people who never read anything. That clarity makes it much easier to judge whether the broader email marketing services plan is actually working, rather than guessing from inflated totals.
